Grin is originally from Menzoberranzan and a member of House Ousstyl, the 52nd house of the city. He is the devoted assistant of Vizeran DeVir and accompanies the characters in the second act of Out of the Abyss.

DeVir instructed Grin to join the Underdark Expeditionary Force to help combat the demonic incursion, with the intention that Grin's knowledge and insight would aid the expeditionary force in gathering the items needed for the Dark Heart Ritual.

Description[]

Grin is small and slight, even for a drow male. He has bright, round features and glimmering violet eyes. Grin has a short, unkempt mop of ashen hair and skin of pale charcoal.

Personality[]

Grin is docile and servile, preferring in most cases to speak when spoken to. He is quite proud of his apprenticeship to DeVir and will gladly do whatever is necessary to please his master and learn all he can in the process.

There appears to be a small, inner fire burning within Grin. It shows a bit in his interactions with Kelevigne, but requires much kindling if it is to grow into courage or assertiveness.

Abilities[]

Although he appears timid and weak, Grin is actually quite an accomplished young drow mage.

Possessions[]

To help him in his endeavors, Grin was given a powerful weapon called Fathom by his master. While he is unaware of Fathom's true potential, he understands that it is a great gift and should be cherished.

Fathom is fully detailed in the Armory.

Activities[]

Grin's current task is to accompany the Underdark Expeditionary Force and help end the Rage of Demons.

Relationships[]

Grin, like his master Vizeran DeVir, is a loyal member of the Council of Spiders. He seeks to deliver his people from the tyranny of Lolth and lead them to new horizons.

He reveres DeVir as master and father, and tolerates DeVir's more sinister endeavors as steps on the path to greatness. Grin has seen Vizeran's power first-hand, and hopes to one day wield such power himself.

History[]

House Ousstyl was originally from the drow city of Ched-Nasad, which lies southeast of the great fungal colony known as Araumycos. House Ousstyl of Ched-Nasad is much more prestigious than its Menzoberranyr branch, ranking as the 11th house and possessing a seat on the ruling council.

In an attempt to expand their reach and influence, a fraction of House Ousstyl journeyed to Menzoberranzan to establish residence there, although they have yet to rise significantly under the thumb of House Baenre.

Grin, who was considered weak and expendable by his sisters, was set to be sacrificed to Lolth. He was able to escape his house and scampered off into the Underdark where he nearly perished, were it not for Vizeran DeVir. DeVir recognized the spark of magic within Grin, and agreed to take him on as an apprentice.
